Henry Byrnes and Bridget Cox Family.

Henry Byrnes [b. arrives in Brooklyn about 1841; Bridget Cox [b. 1827 d. before 1860], his wife, about 1838. According to their youngest daughter, Ellen, both Henry and Bridget spoke Irish. Both Henry and Ellen are dead by 1860; their oldest daughter Jane also died. Several of Bridget's siblings also come to the U.S.: Timothy [b. 1827], Margaret [b. 1820, Ellen [b. 1823], John, and James [b. 1815] On Ellen Cox Murray's death certificate her parents were listed as Timothy Cox and Margaret Corcoran. Timothy marries Mary McGuiness and they have four children: Henry, Alexander, James and Edward. James Cox marries Catherine Reynolds. They have four children: James. Michael, Catherine and Maria. Catherine Reynolds has several siblings living in Brooklyn in the 1850s: Garret, Patrick, Thomas and Andrew. Though Timothy is listed as a day laborer and driver in the Brooklyn City Directory he acuires enough wealth to leave his sister, Ellen, an anuuity of $10,000 in a Will filed with the Kings County Clerk. However, Ellen dies before Timmothy. Hubert [b. 25 Jan. 1850; d. 2 May 1892] is living in a Catholic Orphanage in the 1860 Census. Ellen, the youngest daughter, is living with her aunt and uncle, Thomas Murray and Ellen Cox Murray. Ellen and her aunt live togather the rest of their lives. Ellen marries William Aschoff about 1871 and they have had six children; four are still living in 1900: William [b. 1873], Mary [b. 1879], Charles [b. 1881] and John [b. 1883]. Hubert Byrnes marries Emma Pattison [Patterson] in 1872 in Manhattan. Hubert works as a candy maker for the next twenty years.

Emma Pattison [b. 10 Nov. 1853; d. 7 Nov. 1939] marries Hubert Byrnes [b. 25 Jan. 1850; d. 2 May 1892] on 10 Nov. 1872 by Elias S. Osbon, Methodist minister. Hubert and Emma live on the Lower East Side of Manhattan for the twenty years. For the first few years Margaret Abbott Pattison, Emma's widowed mother, lives with them. Hubert works as a candy maker. Hubert was Roman Catholic, however, I do not know yet if their children were Methodist or Catholic. Their son Hubert was buried with his father at Holy Cross Cemetery; also their son, Thomas Henry [known as Uncle Henni] was Catholic. Emma was missing one finger on her right hand.

Emma and Hubert have 8 children:

Francis (b. 1874) has at least one child, 'Cousin Emma', who married Murray Pennock and they live in California. They adopted a son, also named Murray.

Two of therir children die young: Hubert (b. 1879; d. 8 Mar 1892) and Elizabeth (b. 1875; d. before 1890).

Matilda May (b. 16 May 1877, d. 11 Jul 1935.) May marries John Garrity [b. 12 Aug. 1868] probably in Toronto, Canada, where their first child, Francis Loretta [b. 25 Feb. 1899, d. 19 Jan. 1963] was born. Francis marries Harold Thomas Stokes 29 Aug, 1917 in Brooklyn, N.Y. May and John have two other children: Viola Lilly [ b. 25 Jan. 1903] and Hubert [b. 1901, d. 12 Oct. 1904]. Henrietta (b.1880) Henrietta marries twice; first to Francis A. Nolan [b. 1886, d.. 12 Jan. 1912] who was born in Canada and the son of Richard Nolan and Christina Brown, both born in Ireland. Their first son, Frank D., was born at sea; the family was traveling to England. The family lives in England until 1908 where four sons are born. Henrietta and two of her sons come back to the U.S. in 1908 aboard the S.S. Lusitania. In Brooklyn they have two more sons and a daughter, Emma Francis [b. 25 Apr. 1911, d. 29 Sept. 1911]. Frank Nolan dies when his head is crashed in a railroad accident. Henrietta marries Albert Carroll before 1917 and they have a daughter and a son. Albert was born Rhode Island in 1892; both of his parents were born Italy. His name is remembered as originally being 'Alandori Corello.'

Loretta: b. Oct 1883, d. 17 Sept. 1925.

Loretta marries Mark Anthony Tisdall [b. Apr, 1876 Ireland; D. 10 Aug. 1957] probably in Toronto, Canada since that is where their first child, Henrietta was born and also the country Mark Anthony emigrated to from Ireland. Mark also had a sister living in Toronto. Mark worked as a railroad clerk and later in plumbing. They had six known children: Henrietta M.: b. 7 Jul. 1900; d. unknown; married Randolph Stokes: b. Henry marries Johanna Regan on 26 October 1919 at St. Stephane's Church. They have one son, Daniel, born 1927.

Though in the 1880 and 1892 censuses his name is given as Thomas H. in the 1920 Census he uses Henry T. Byrnes and his name is remembered as 'Uncle Henni.' In the 1920 Census he is living next door to his sister, Henrietta and her second, husband, Albert Carroll, in the East New York section of Brooklyn. In 1930 the family has moved to Queens. Henry dies in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Gilbert ideas in San Diego on 6 Feb. 1990.
