The Strategic Allies

No one company today incorporates all the skills and resources necessary to successfully undertake an offering of this scope. MecklerWeb has therefore sought out world-class partners, each of which brings laser focus in a particular core competence. These partners are listed below along with a short description of what each will contribute to the overall initiative.

Core Technology Partners

AlterNet
will provide the connectivity required to serve MecklerWeb audiences and clients via the Internet. AlterNet is among the first entrants into this industry and has considerable depth of experience with the large-scale requirements involved.
Digital Equipment Corporation
is supplying Alpha AXP servers and disk drives as well as a professionally supported site to house and maintain this hardware. In addition, Digital has committed system integration resources to help bring up the system and optimize its performance.
Enterprise Integration Technologies (EIT)
has agreed to contribute its commercial Web server engine to the initiative. Currently in development, this software promises to enable secure monetary transations and thus facilitate direct sales via the Internet. EIT is the official program manager and technology developer for CommerceNet, which is also a charter MecklerWeb partner.
WAIS Inc.
will similarly contribute its commercial softare tools for electronic publishing and information retrieval. WAIS has long worked with Dow-Jones on related projects and is currently developing methods of distributing the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and Encyclopaedia Brittanica over the Internet.

Core Business Partners

Dun & Bradstreet
will participate as a core business partner in MecklerWeb, providing key information and services for business transactions. Discussions are underway to determine potential contributions from several of D&B's subsidiaries, possibly including A.C. Nielsen, Dataquest, Dun & Bradstreet Information Services, Moody's Investors Service, and the Reuben H. Donnelley company.
Edelman
will coordinate all MecklerWeb's press relations, both online and through traditional media channels. Edelman Technology Communications recently managed the highly effective introduction of CommerceNet to the world business community.
EDS
will contribute management consulting talent to help engineer the business processes involved in efficiently bringing MecklerWeb partners and clients online. EDS has significant experience in this area as well as hands-on familiarity with the special requirements posed by the Internet and the World Wide Web.
Ogilvy & Mather Direct
will design MecklerWeb's ``look and feel'' in terms of on-screen art and typography. With ten year's experience in online marketing, Ogilvy has much to offer in this department.
