I returned to Nice Shoes tonight to put my sound track changes on the D2
video master, at the anxiety-producing price of $250/hr. Ed, the
night editor, took the relevant portions from the D2 and DAT and edited
them together pretty easily on his hard disk, eliminating the sound level
problem at the juncture of reels one and two. But he was unable to
transfer the fixes from the hard disk to the D2 without punching a little
hole in the sound track at the end points of the edit. It's not clear
whether this is a limitation of Nice Shoes' equipment or a temporary technical
problem; Ed wrestled with the system a while then sent me home, saying
he'd do an experiment and let me know by Monday whether the fix was possible.
If it isn't, I guess I have to shop for an audio postproduction house,
or else lay the entire sound track back onto the D2, at more expense than
I was prepared for. Sigh....
