Panix Cheap Web service is the low-priced option if you want the convenience and clarity of your own domain name for Web and email addresses, but don't need the extra features (disk space, traffic allowance, subdomains, add-ons) of our Corporate Web Hosting services.

Cheap Web is an add-on to a single-user Panix account; this can be a UNIX shell account ($10/month and up) or a full PPP or ISDN dialup account, but you need a Panix account with shell access to add Cheap Web. ("access.net" mailbox-only accounts can't get Cheap Web added to them.) Shell add-ons, such as extra disk space, additional mailboxes, and MySQL are available with Cheap-web accounts.

Each Panix account is limited to one Cheap Web site; you can direct as many Cheap Web domain names as you like to a single site, but you'll need to set up separate login accounts if you want multiple Cheap Web sites.

(In other words, if you want 3 domain names pointing to the same main page, you only pay for 1 Panix account and 3 Cheap Web add-ons. If you have 2 domains that go to 2 separate homepages, you pay for 2 Panix accounts and a Cheap Web add-on for each one.)

200 MB of space and 1 GB/month of traffic is sufficient for most personal Web uses, but if you will be advertising your site or are planning a page with a lot of graphics, MP3s, videos, etc., it probably won't be enough. If you're planning more than just a private, personal corner of the Web with your own domain, you might find Panix Corporate Web, at $35 a month, to better suit your needs.

Along with the disk and traffic allotments, access methods, CGI languages, and all other details are the same as your personal page. Cheap Web adds the following advantages:

• Your page is reachable under your domain name (e.g. www.whatever-you-like.com), and gives you an email alias (forwarding address) of your choosing, in that domain. By default this alias is forwarded to your Panix account; it can be redirected to another account on or off Panix if you so choose.
• 'postmaster' and 'webmaster' aliases are automatically provided in your domain, and go to your regular Panix address, as above.
  (Additional aliases can be added in the Configuration GUI, at no charge.)
• Mailboxes in your domain name are available for $5/month, or $50/year. Each has a discrete 200 MB quota and its own password. They can be accessed by POP, IMAP, or the Panix webmail system.

Prices listed are for the complete package, regardless of whether you opt to use all features included. Services and resources cannot be shared among accounts unless otherwise stated.

Extras such as SSL encryption, FTP sites, and FrontPage extensions are not available with this service. If your Web presence requires some of these, please refer to Panix Web Site Hosting in our Business Services section.

Panix Cheap Web Service performs all the relevant functions of a virtual domain: primary and secondary DNS, as well as mail exchange. Panix Cheap Web service does not include any facility for primary DNS hosted at any other ISP.
