NewsXPress Configuration
NewsXPress is an offline news reader. It serves the same function as Unix
newsreaders such as nn, trn, and tin: the viewing of articles in Usenet
newsgroups. This document assumes that you have already unzipped the file
you downloaded from Panix or elsewhere.
- Copy the CTL3DV2.DLL file to your Windows System directory. This can
be done from DOS or Windows:
- From DOS, type
copy ctl3dv2.dll c:\windows\system
and press ENTER.
- From Windows, just use the Windows File Manager to copy the file.
- Create an icon for NewsXpress in whatever Program Group you prefer.
- Open NewsXpress. Select 'Setup' from the 'Config' menu.
- Under 'Hosts and Ports Information':
- For 'NNTP Server', put news.panix.com in the first box. The
smaller box to the right should already say 119, which is correct.
- For 'SMTP Server', put mail.panix.com in the first box.
The smaller box to the right should already say 25, which is correct.
- Under 'Personal Information':
- Put anything you like in 'Fullname' and 'Organization'. When you
post an article, whatever you put in 'Fullname' will show up in the
'From:' header of the article, and whatever you put in 'Organization'
will show up in the 'Organization:' header.
- If you have a .signature file, put the full path name in
'Signature File'.
- You must put your correct email address in 'Email Address'; that
is, userid@panix.com.
- Leave 'Authorization Information' BLANK.
- The boxes under 'File and Path' should already have the correct settings;
leave them alone.
NewsXpress is now properly configured. For more information about preferences,
look at the NewsXpress FAQ which comes with the software.
