Subject: New Dialup numbers for everyone Date: Thu, Feb 27 2003 -- 11:05 AM Posted by: Mara's Staff Account
Panix's NY metro region phone numbers are changing. (This includes most NJ phone numbers.) In addition to the phone numbers, how you log in will change slightly as well.
We're doing this because the viability of our current phone company is highly questionable. Phone service on the old numbers could be lost very soon.
Please see the web page with the new numbers at http://www.panix.com/panix/phone-numbers.html
We'll be sending a somewhat more detailed email message to every Panix subscriber on Thursday. Please read it carefully before calling or writing our support staff with questions, but once you've read it, please don't delay switching numbers! This minor inconvenience is insignificant compared to the trouble you could face if you delay until the old numbers die, and only then discover that you're having trouble with our new numbers.
Panix users dialing directly to a unix host, without using PPP, should please wait for the email before trying the new numbers, as there are a few minor differences in the way you'll be logging in.
We're sorry that everyone has to go through this, but we expect that once you make the switch you'll find the same high-quality service at the new numbers.
Thank you for continuing to use Panix... a reliable Internet provider in unreliable times.
