Wow, not clear what gave you that initial impression of the Company--maybe transposing the caravan idea from Anvil of the World? As for recurring characters, well, yeah, there's a reason book 3 is titled Mendoza in Hollywood. My biggest sticking point in the first book (along with the disgustingly self-righteous male lead)was the schmoopy Mendoza-in-love. As I've said more than once, Mendoza the bitter cynic (which is mostly what we get in her later appearances) is more funny and interesting, IMO. I think the one I've enjoyed the most was book 4, Graveyard Games. Wish the most recent book had followed up more on some of its hooks. Maybe the next one will pick up the threads. Sorry, rambling now....
