Yes, it is occasionally better, but with a warning: it's a fairly inconsistant line. I found the Ennis run to be pretty bad overall (but I don't like Ennis much anyway). The run by Brian Azarello (of 100 Bullets infamy) is also terrible. Warren Ellis and Mike Carey both write it very well. There are a few other writers who are by and large competant, though unmemorable.
