A Book Log
I read these last year. I thought the first book was great, but by the end of the series it had lapsed into more standard fantasy-adventure fluff. Not *bad* fluff, mind you, but I missed the spooky atmosphere from the first book.
I don't think the handling of Tamir's gender-switch was so great, from an intellectual perspective. It was too plot-devicy, without enough serious consideration of how it would really feel to spend your whole life thinking you're a boy until all of a sudden you're not.

Well, huh, I thought that part worked really well.
I agree that the books got less spooky as they went on, but I didn't mind that because three whole volumes of that would have gotten oppressive.
