WATERMARK:
Vietnamese American Poetry & Fiction

Final Deadline for Submissions Extended to March 31, 1997

Contacts:
Barbara Tran -- Fiction & Poetry, e-mail
Kim Tran -- Artwork

The Asian American Writers' Workshop is currently accepting poetry, fiction, and artwork by Vietnamese Americans for Watermark, an anthology to be released in late 1997.

There are no prescribed thematic constraints;
submissions may be on any topic.

Contributors are encouraged to submit works that have not traditionally been considered representative of their Vietnamese American identity (i.e., works need not be war-related).

This publication will be a celebration of the diversity and range of writing and visual arts within the Vietnamese American community, placing emphasis on craft over topic, and thereby providing a more comprehensive view of Vietnamese American literature, visual art, and identity.

Guidelines for submissions to Watermark are as follows:

  1. Previously published works are welcome, but preference will be given to work that has not yet appeared in book-form.
  2. All submissions and queries must be accompanied by a S.A.S.E. for response and/or return of materials.
  3. All artwork must be accompanied by a resume and any other relevant supporting materials.
  4. All writing submissions must be typed and should include author's name, address, and phone number on the first page, and name on all subsequent pages.
  5. Fax numbers and e-mail addresses should be included where available.
  6. Publication credits must be provided if applicable.
  7. Poetry: 12 pages maximum.
    Fiction: 25 pages, double-spaced, maximum.
  8. The deadline for the final round of submissions is 3/31/97 (postmarked).

Fiction and poetry should be sent to the attention of Barbara Tran; artwork to Kim Tran. Queries should be accompanied by a SASE or addressed to btran@hotmail.com.

Watermark will continue the Asian American Writers' Workshop series, which began in 1996 with the publication of Flippin': Filipinos in America; Contours of the Heart: South Asians Map North America; and Quiet Fire: A Historical Anthology of Asian American Poetry. Please call the AAWW @ 212-228-6718 with any further questions.
