Notes:

Both the title and good deal of the incidental symbolism were suggested
by certain early-twentieth century art movements; and I recommend them
(apart from their great intrinsic interest) to any who think elucidation
of this work worth the trouble. To another work I am indebted in general,
one which has influenced our generation profoundly (if not profoundly
enough); I mean Infocom's _Zork_ Trilogy; I have used especially
_The Great Underground Empire_. Anyone who is acquainted with these
works will immediately recognize in the poem certain parser limitations.
