Things I Just Don't Get
That's it, no more feeling guilty for calling a friend who is
"compromisingly occupied" - dammit, don't answer the phone during sex,
people! It's that simple!
Jeff C. is now a Professional Republican.
I still take no blame for the Cellucci/Swift administration. I voted in
Maryland. How could Massachusetts do this?!?!?
Why bars close at 2AM and the T shuts down at midnight.
Oxford University: expansive, beautiful lawns - which no one is
allowed to touch. What a waste. Give me a good ol' roll down mem hill
any time.
Royalty. What a ludicrous idea.
I want DC to have home rule, and representation - none of this offensive
shit Congress can pull, removing the Mayor's powers and renaming National
Airport. DC has a higher population than some US States - why can't it
have its own representation as well? Why should Congress have the right
to suppress referendum results?
People. Like, what's up with us?
Most commercials.
Platform sneakers.
Why has god cursed Red Sox fans?
People who dress alike to be unique and rebellious. Come off it! Y'all
are pretentious fucks! What part of I N D I V I D U A L don't you get?
So I went into a sub shop last week, since I hadn't had time to pack lunch
that day. (Life sucks when you run out of granola bars, it really does!)
Not only were they not selling any subs (sheesh! We should hire at least
one or two for the party!), but they were charging $7 for a veggie
grinder. FOR A VEGETARIAN GRINDER. Forget it! The one thing I can say
for DC is that at least if I'm paying over $5 for a sandwich there, its
going to be a damned good sandwich. (I miss Lawson's... :( Boston may
have plenty of fabu restaurants, but the lunch places suck.
Parsley. I love Middle Eastern food, but I still think more than a touch
of parsley can ruin even the best Tabooleh. Parsley is a garnish,
people!
Lesbians who sleep with men, long-term, yet despise bisexuals and
bisexuality. And how the men can stay with them. Some people just have
issues! What, are they afraid they'll be branded with a scarlet
letter "B" on their foreheads or somesuch nonsense? Pffft. The world
could use more Boston fans!
Football fans. The game is so damned boring!
Why on earth someone would decorate an office in all gray - for pete's
sake, I work for a non-profit, not Dilbert's boss! How are people
supposed to work in an environmnet that's all gray and black and no
natural light? Idiots.
Women's Clothing. How come men's clothing is always measured in
detail
(34-36, or whatever) and women's clothing is generically S, M, L or some
randomly assigned number? XL could mean 5'10", 150lbs., or 5'2, 200lbs.
I sense some discrepancy in these body types! Yet they're expected to
wear the same size. What a sick, sexist society we live in.
These new bloody $20
bills - they look like Monopoly money.
True Love - I
suspect that it's something that no one ever really
figures out, but people either believe they've found it, or they don't
believe in it at all. How does one ditch bitterness, angst, and cynicism about the whole
deal?
It's obviously all a giant conspiracy. True love doesn't exist.
Blue M&Ms - what kind
of sick, twisted mind came up with the deranged concept of Blue M&Ms?
Raisins. Who the fuck
voluntarily perverts innocent cookies and breads
by adding raisins?!?!?!?
Teletubbies.
I've been encountering stupidity a
lot lately - it seems that I have a
very low tolerance for fools.
See, it's close-minded hypocrisy
that tends to frustrate me and make me
nauseous - and there's just soooo much of that around. There's no
end to self-centered bigots
in this world, and that scares me.
I still don't get how wedge issues have succeeded so well - how one
oppressed minority can, in turn, be cruel and oppressive to another. How
a "progressive" organization can
still turn out to be exclusionary and
selfish, yet claim to be more "open-minded" than others. Obviously I
still have too much faith in humanity.
The example I often return to is biphobia -
and I don't know which bugs me more: the fact that people say it doesn't
exist or that it does exist. I'm sick of being around gay people who
don't like bisexuals as a rule. Activists who are fighting as a career
choice to be able to love whom they want, fuck whom they want, and even
marry whom they want, yet are often prejudiced and elitist towards
bisexuals, failing to respect our right to love and fuck and marry
whomever we want.
As Drewcifer once said, part of the
definition of bisexual is the ability
to love/fuck/etc. someone of the opposite sex. It feels sometimes like
bisexuals can only be taken seriously if they're involved in a "gay"
relationship.
So, despite years of activism and surrounding myself almost solely within
the queer community, there are still people who cannot "accept" me or my
presence because I'm involved with a "boy."
Fucking hypocrites.
The DC Metro - SHEESH! They
closed down Dupont South for a year to work on the escalators, and now
that they've reopened it, they only use one escalator at a time.
Brilliant decision over rush hour.
People on the Metro - talk about
rude and inconsiderate! I've seen people plow down old ladies and
children; I've seen old ladies and children plow down anything in
their paths; I've been unable to get off at my stop because people
won't move; and basically, it's just Yet Another reaffirmation of the
90's as MEMEME!
