McAree and McGee Families

Francis McAree/Ellen Marron; Owen McGee/Anna Freeman Families

Barbarite, Bepler, Cassidy, Freeman [Freemont], Gravey, Jackman, Kelly, Marron, Martin, McAree, McCrey, McGee

The McGees arrive in the US first about 1860. They move to Long Island City by 1870. There is still a question whether Patrick McGee is the son of Owen McGee or the son of a John McGee related to Owen. Patrick McAree's family starts arriving in about 1885; if the 1900 census is to be believed his daughter, Margaret McAree, arrives first in 1885; Patrick, her brother, in 1887; her mother, Margaret McGee McAree in 1890, and Francis McAree in 1891. Francis' children arrive in 1893 without their mother Ellen Marron McAree; who I assume died in Ireland. The McArees chiefly live in Greenpoint, Brooklyn; across from Long Island City. Francis remarried Letiticia Kelly, who was also widowed and at the time of their marriage ha chidlren. Francis sold life insurance. Of the five known children of Francis McAree and Ellen Marron, three are born in County Monaghan and two are born in county Cavan.
