Kotlety Siekane (Polish Hamburgers)

Recipe from: Jannike
Servings: 8

1 medium chopped onion
1 teaspoon bacon drippings
3 slices white bread, preferably a good bakery bread
½ cup milk
1 egg
1 pound ground beef
½ pound ground pork
salt and pepper to taste

Chop the onion into small pieces. Fry the onion in the bacon drippings until golden brown. Set aside to cool. You'll have a mess if you try to mix onions with the meat while still hot. Soak the bread in milk. Break the soaked bread into small pieces. Combine the onions, bread, egg, beef and pork. Salt and pepper to taste. Shape the mixture into thick hamburgers. Brown them in the bacon drippings. Do not fully cook. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes at 350°F.
