This fabulous burger is inspired by LaBrea's Campanile restaurant, where the original ciabatta sandwiches were made famous.
2 large red onions, sliced thinly
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup crumbled Gorgonzola cheese
1 pound ground beef
4 ciabatta sandwich rolls, split
In large skillet, melt butter and cook onions with sugar until soft and browned, about 20 minutes. Mix cheese and ground beef. Form into four patties and grill or broil until desired doneness. Brush rolls with olice oil and toast or grill. Place patties on toasted rolls and top with caramelized onions.
