½ pound pepper bacon, sliced into ½ inch pieces
4 slices pepper bacon, cut in half
1 pound ground beef
1 avocado, skinned, pitted and thinly sliced
1 tomato, sliced
In a large skillet, over medium heat, cook bacon pieces until slightly browned. Strain away extra grease. Set aside in small mixing bowl. Brown larger bacon slices, strain; set aside until ready to serve.
In a large mixing bowl combine bacon pieces into ground beef.
Divide mixture into 4 equal patties. Grill patties, uncovered, over medium heat, turning occasionally, to medium doneness (160°F internal temperature). Check for doneness with an instant read thermometer or cook until juices run clear and there is no pink left in the center of the patties.
Top burgers with whole bacon slices, avocado, tomato and lettuce. Serve on favorite hamburger buns.
