Royal Government Crest, the National Emblem of Bhutan
A circle projecting a double diamond thunderbolt placed above the lotus is the National Emblem of Bhutan. There are two dragons on the either sides and jewels on all the sides. Lotus represents purity; the thunderbolts harmony between secular and religious power and the jewels signifies sovereign power. The dragons on the either side, a male and a female, represent the name of the country. (Druk means dragon and for the Bhutanese, Bhutan is known as Druk yul or the Land of the Dragon).

His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck was crowned the fifth king of Bhutan in November 2008. He is currently the world's youngest reigning monarch at 28 years old when he became king.

Trongsa Dzong, built in 1644, used to be the seat of power of the Wangchuck dynasty before it became rulers of Bhutan in 1907. Traditionally the King of Bhutan first becomes the Penlop (governor) of Trongsa before being named Crown Prince and eventually King. Built on a mountain spur high above the gorges of the Mangde Chhu, the dzong controlled east-west trade for centuries. The only road connecting eastern and western Bhutan (the precursor to the modern Lateral Road), passed through the courtyard of the dzong. At the command of the penlop the massive doors could be shut, dividing the country in two.
