New Yorkers for Companion Animals (NYCA)
A small, nonprofit, volunteer run organization based in New York City's upper east side. The cats and dogs they have up for adoption are all rescued animals. Many are former pets abandoned at city pounds, found on the streets or given up by their owners. Regardless of how an animal comes to them, they provide food, shelter, and medical care. They are not an institutional shelter, so the animals are not kept in cages. The cats and dogs are placed in volunteer foster homes until permanent homes are found. Because of this, they know the individual personalities, and can tell you about the pet that will be the best match for you and/or your current feline or canine companion (if you already have one).
