Chester County Police Car Numbering System as of January 1, 1995

Chester County Dept of Emergency Services in conjunction with the
Chester County Police Chiefs Association adopted the following
numbering system for police cars on county radios.

The police unit begins the ID with the word "Unit" which is then
followed by the municipality number of the township/boro that
corresponds to the police dept, that is followed by an alpha
character which is explained later and then the second number
denotes the sector being patrolled by that vehicle.

T=Tom      Traffic Control Units
PR=Paul Robert   Park Rangers

The way to determine what part of a municipality a car is
patrolling is by the last number.

1-9     Roving                     50-59      NorthEast
10-19   North                      60-69      NorthWest
20-29   South                      70-79      SouthEast
30-39   East                       80-89      SouthWest
40=49   West                       90-99      Central/Middle

Once it is put together this is simple.

"Unit 43 paul 20" is a patrol car working in the South Sector of
Tredyffrin Twp.

"Unit 55 Sam 1" is the Supervisor of the shift in Easttown Twp.

- ALSO : recent change made policy by Chester County is that all departments
  that use single digit identifiers shall prefix it with a zero and be
  pronounced as same. (i.e. 3 (Kennett Square Borough) shall be 03 units) etc.
