Chester County Police Car Numbering System as of January 1, 1995 Chester County Dept of Emergency Services in conjunction with the Chester County Police Chiefs Association adopted the following numbering system for police cars on county radios. The police unit begins the ID with the word "Unit" which is then followed by the municipality number of the township/boro that corresponds to the police dept, that is followed by an alpha character which is explained later and then the second number denotes the sector being patrolled by that vehicle. Dan Miller - ALSO : recent change made policy by Chester County is that all departments that use single digit identifiers shall prefix it with a zero and be pronounced as same. (i.e. 3 (Kennett Square Borough) shall be 03 units) etc.
