The following data is for The Delaware County PA Fire Board, located in
their new 911 Center in Middletown Township, Media PA. The system is sort of
unique in operation as far as frequencies go. They dispatch off 46.48 mgz
low band. When they moved to the present radio room from the old Courthose
basement two years ago, they planned on going 100% 500 MGZ UHF. They would
phase-out slowly the old 46 mgz low band equipment when the companies
operating on it could budget and afford to purchase the radio equipment.
Well, the more financially secure companies switched almost immediately,
others didnt. To date, some of the poorer companies in the county say they
may never be able to afford to switch over and the County must compensate
and leave the old system on line with the new. So you have some companies
operating on the old system and some on the new. Some have to have TWO
radios in the same truck because some of the companies around them are on
the old and they are on the new.
