Bandit Queen (Skekhar Kapur)

Rating: 2.5

Undeniably powerful at times, but at the same time curiously
uninvolving. I have the same problem with this film that I have with
many films based on real people/events: there's no dramatic structure. A
lot of horrifying things happened to this woman, but why make a film
about them? This is particularly evident at the end; it doesn't so much
conclude as halt. My response to BANDIT QUEEN was very similar to my
response to Ken Loach's LADYBIRD, LADYBIRD: Why are you making me watch
this? This may well be my failing.
