Okay, so I lied. But I had to. Half of the New York critics gave away the film's secret in the goddamn opening paragraph, fer chrissakes, and while I'd argue that Dadetown is a terrific and perceptive film even if you know in advance what the deal is (note that I'm carefully avoiding details, those of you who haven't seen the film and ignored my request to keep out), it's unquestionably preferable to watch it the first time without the burden of that knowledge. I wanted to try to keep people away from other reviews without tipping them off that there was anything truly unusual about the picture, and the only way that I could think to accomplish that was simply to lie. Sue me.
