Sensor Upgrades --------------- The induction loop sensors are unable to detect bicycles. They're also in a general state of disrepair due to construction and pavement hummocking. Hummocking will be exacerbated once the thousands of trucks carrying fill to the Lighthouse Landing construction site begin rolling through this intersection. Do note, the Hudson Terrace sensor is currently gone, leaving vehicles stuck at red lights until someone approaches the intersection from New Broadway. I encourage the DOT to install optical sensors as soon as possible for Hudson Terrace and New Broadway. These low-volume streets only get a green signal when occupancy is detected. This suggestion for optical sensors is based my observing them performing well for Bellwood / Pierson Aves (next to Phillipsburg Manor) at Route 9. Bedford Rd Pedestrian Interval ------------------------------ The pedestrian interval for crossing Route 448 (Bedford Rd) at Route 9 (North Broadway) is currently during North Broadway's main green phase. This results in significant conflicting movements. Pedestrians and motorists would benefit greatly by a minor adjustment. When New Broadway / Hudson Terrace obtains a green signal, begin the Bedford Rd pedestrian interval and continue through the main Broadway green phase. New Broadway's low volume will significantly reduce conflicts. Hudson Terrace traffic has a red light for Bedford Rd. When pedestrians have requested crossing but no vehicles occupy New Broadway / Hudson Terr, provide pedestrians a leading interval of a few seconds. Pedestrian Signal Signage ------------------------- The south west corner of Beekman Ave and Route 9 has two pedestrian buttons. Signs are needed to indicate which button is for which street.
