Users who are having communications-related problems with the Newton Backup
Utility for Windows should consider the possibility that the difficulty is
with their Windows communications software. If, for instance, they cannot
connect reliably between two low-level comm programs, e.g., WinTerm or
HyperTerminal on Windows, and Slurpee or PocketCall on the Newton, this
would suggest that the difficulty is not solely with WNBU.

Microsoft provides technical support for their software, either free or for
a fee, via both the World Wide Web and telephone. The Microsoft Knowledge
Base may be accessed at URL: <http://www.microsoft.com/kb/>. For example,
some of the articles mentioned in the previous FAQ may be found by choosing
"Windows 3.x and Windows for Workgroups" from the "Product" pop-up, and
entering "16550" (the designation of the affected serial chip) in the
"Words to Look For" field. The web page for this particular search may be
addressed directly by entering the URL,
<http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/fts.dll?db=KB_windows&qu=16550&mh=25>.

Telephone support is also available; whether this is free depends on a
number of factors, such as when the user first called for support. The
number for Windows '95 is 206-635-7000; the number for Windows and Windows
for Workgroups is 206-637-7098.
