Updated Serial.386 -- ReadME.txt
---------------------------------
If you are using a computer with a 16550 serial port chip made by SMC and
are also running Windows for Workgroups 3.11, you may encounter problems
caused by defective SMC parts. If your system has the bug, your system may
stop responding (hang) when the application that uses the serial port is
started. Usually the system will operate correctly the first time the
program
is run, but will hang if the program is opened for a second time. To fix
the
problem, a new serial.386 driver is required in your /windows/system
directory. The new driver will solve the problem with the FDC37C665QF
part.
SMC chips FDC37C664QF and FDC37C666QF also contain flaws and may not be
fixed by the new driver. In these cases, purchase a new serial card.
