Greetings,
As we mentioned in the last letter, Bain includes a number of modern Irish names and so is not reliable for SCA research. Dunkling, "Scottish Christian Names", says that Eilidh is "A Gaelic form of Helen which has been used in the late 1970's in Scotland". This could mean that it was invented in the 70's, or that it was an older name revived in the 70's. The 70's saw the beginning of a fashion in Scotland for reviving and inventing Gaelic names, so either possibility could be the truth. As an alternative, we can suggest "Eibhlin," which is a welldocumented Irish women's name.
