Greetings,

We were able to find surprisingly little information about the surname "Heston." Our standard sources for English and Scottish names didn't list anything under that entry.

We did find the name "Hestin" in "The Surnames of Ireland" by Edward MacLysaght. He describes the Hestins as a sept of the MacDermots, although we have no idea whether this would mean that people surnamed "Hestin" would be allowed to use the MacDermott arms--that's outside the scope of the kind of research we do. If there is an English village of "Heston," then it's possible the name derived from that village as well.

For geneological and clan information, you may want to contact Clan MacDermot, which has a Web page located at

http://aoife.indigo.ie/~mcdermot/

They may be able to help you further, and will certainly be able to tell you if you, or any other Heston, would have a right to use the MacDermot arms.

If there's anything else we can do for you, please let us know.
