We were able to find the following information on the name "Plantier." It appears to have been used originally as a name for gardeners, and we can find examples of similar names going back to the 13th century. We found references to the name in both the "Dictionnaire Etymologique des Noms de Famille et Prenoms de France" by Albert Dauzat and in the "Dictionary of British Surnames" by P.H. Reaney.
