Greetings,

We have come up with a number of symbols used to describe loyalty and fortitude. One of the oldest symbols of loyalty is the hound. The tower has been used as a symbol for fortitude or faith, and a pair of clasped hands is also recorded as a symbol of loyalty and faith. A 16th-century heraldic books says that arms which were black on gold symbolized "one who was constant despite all odds," so you might consider this color scheme.

These symbolic meanings aren't absolute rules, but ideas. It's not entirely clear how many of the symbols recorded were actually used in medieval heraldry, but there's no reason not to use them in your own designs.

In service,
Alan Fairfax
