ACADEMY OF SAINT GABRIEL REPORT 1149 http://www.s-gabriel.org/1149 ************************************ From: "S Friedemann" 3 Aug 1998 Greetings from the Academy of Saint Gabriel! You asked for help creating a Classical Greek feminine name, in the time of the Persian Wars, using either or as your given name. Here is the information we have found. The Persian Wars occured between 492 and 449 BC. [1] While a Greek persona during those times would not be outside the Society's formal bounds, it is far removed from the medieval and renaissance mainstream; you will find that some people will disapprove of your choice, and that your persona might not fill well into many parts of Society culture. Your best choice for sources of ancient Greek names would probably be Herodotus's works; he covers precisely the period you're interested in. The two names you were interested in, and , appear in an article on aristocratic names from the Byzantine Empire in the 6th and 7th centuries. [2] These names are certainly authentic for that period; however, we have no idea if they were in use 1000 years before that. We hope that this letter has been useful to you, and that you will not hesitate to write again if any part was unclear or if you have further questions. Research and commentary on this letter was provided by Arval Benicoeur, Rouland Carre, Tangwystyl verch Morgant Glasvryn, Lindorm Eriksson, Walraven van Nijmegen, and Daniel de Lincolia.
