ACADEMY OF SAINT GABRIEL REPORT 1158 http://www.s-gabriel.org/1158 ************************************ 11 Aug 1998 From: (Josh Mittleman) Greetings from the Academy of Saint Gabriel! You asked for information about period Tuareg names. Unfortunately, we cannot find any information to add to your own research. In fact, we would be very grateful if you could send us more information about your sources, particularly the ones that contain information about names. If you could see your way clear to make us a photocopy of the name lists and the accompanying discussion, we would be in your debt. Based on our general knowledge of period naming and particularly on our knowledge of Islamic naming, we believe you are correct that the name you have been using, , based on the name of a rainbow goddess, the ancestral mother of the Tuaregs, and a Tuareg clan name, is unlikely to be an authentic name. Unfortunately, we cannot give any concrete advice on native Tuareg names. If you decide to use an Arabic name, then we can offer some help. We have two articles on the web which discuss Arabic naming and include lists of period Arabic feminine names. You can find them at http://www.panix.com/~mittle/names/other.html#arabic If you need more information about Arabic names, please contact us again. I hope this letter has been useful. Please write us again if any part of it has been unclear or if you have other questions. I was assisted in researching and writing this letter by Alan Fairfax, Talan Gwynek, Teceangl Bach, Lindorm Eriksson, Giles Leabrook, and Zenobia Naphtali.
