Here is the information we have on the name "Garibaldi."

The "Diccionario del Cognomi Italiani" by Emilio De Felice says that the surname Garibaldi derives from the Longobard given name Garibaldo or Gariboldo. He cites examples of the name from the 8th century: Garibald in 715, Gairipald in 720, Garipaldi in 757, Garibaldus and Girbaldus in the 9th century. The name "Garibaldi" would originally have meant "Garibaldo's child" or "of Garibaldo's household."
