Academy of Saint Gabriel Report 124

This report is available at http://www.s-gabriel.org/124

This is one of the Academy's earliest reports. We are not confident that these early reports are accurate. Please use it with caution.

Here's the information we found on the name "Kenyon." It could be derived from more than one source.

An English surname "Kenyon" dervies from the village of Kenyon in Kent, England. We found people named Robert de Kenien in 1212, Jordan Kenyan in 1260, and Nicholas Kynion in 1288. (1) It was suggested that the place "Kenyon" comes from the Welsh "cruc Ennion" (Ennion's mound), (2), but we think this origin is doubtful.

"Kenyon" could also have a Welsh origin, from the Welsh given name "Cunnian." We found an example of "Cunnian" from 1292, and the spelling "Kennyon" from 1315. (3)

Heather Rose Jones and Josh Mittleman researched your name.

We hope this has been helpful. If we can be of any further assistance, please let us know.

Sincerely,
Alan Terlep
