Greetings,

Here's the information we found on the name "Brenna Greene."

Like you, we have found no evidence for "Brenna" as a medieval English name. It is most likely a post-period Anglicized form of a Irish women's names. The use of "-a" to indicate a female name comes from Latin and is not a feature of Irish names.

There are probably other English names which mean "dark" or "dark-haired." However, medieval English names, like modern ones, were generally not chosen because of their meaning. A medieval English name which meant "dark-haired" would be as likely given to a blonde as to a dark-haired girl.

Withycombe is by far your best source for English names--if she dates a name, you can assume that she is using a reliable source.

We hope this has been helpful. We can look for names which sound similar to "Brenna" or names which mean "dark," depending on whether the sound or the meaning is more important to you.

Arval D'Espas Nord, Effric neyn Kenyeoch vic Ralte, Rouland Carre, Tangwstyl verch Morgant Glasvryn, Zenobia Naphtali, and Evan da Collureo researched your name.
