Academy of Saint Gabriel Report 148

This report is available at http://www.s-gabriel.org/148

This is one of the Academy's earliest reports. We are not confident that these early reports are accurate. Please use it with caution.

Greetings,

Here's the information we have on your name and arms.

"Edward" is a given name of English origin that first appeared in Wales in the mid-1200's and became popular in the late 1300's. Although the use of "-s" in surnames in common in modern Welsh, it appears that this practice did not begin until the 1500's. The more traditional Welsh form would be "ap Edward."

There should be no problem passing a lion passant guardant counterchanged. There are many color combinations you could use--the only ones that we found conflicts for are vert and argent; vert and Or; Or and azure; and Or and sable. (In each of these, the colors refer to the colors of the field, with the left have as seen from the front listed first).

We hope this has been helpful. If we can be of any further assistance, please let us know.

Tangwystl verch Morgant Glasvryn, Rouland Carre, Arval D'Espas Nord, Loveday Toddekyn, Elsbeth Anne Roth, and Zenobia Naphtali all contributed to this letter.

In service,
Alan Fairfax
