The best source for an SCA person looking for a Japanese name is "Name Construction in Medieval Japan." This book is available from the publisher, Outlaw Press (on the Web at http://www.outlawpress.com/~outlaw ). A much smaller source is in Compleat Anachronist #65, "A Japanese Miscellany." Mundane sources which may be useful to you include "Japan's Name Culture" by Herbert Plutchow and "Japanese Names and How to Read Them" by Koop and Inada. Another source with lists of Japanese names is "A Historical Dictionary of Japan" by Papinot. Although the name elements are reliable, Papinot doesn't always list the complete form of a name.
