ACADEMY OF SAINT GABRIEL REPORT 1570 http://www.s-gabriel.org/1570 ************************************ 28 May 1999 From: Alan Terlep Greetings, Here's the information we found on Indian names. Because India is so vast, it's impossible to make any generalizations about Indian names that would be applicable for all Indian regions, periods, and social classes. We recommend that you read some books on Indian history so that you can narrow your search down to a particular time and place within medieval India. History books need to be used with care as a source for names, but it is likely that a history book would be a good starting point to do some name research. If you want to go beyond this, we found a number of books that document inscriptions from India; the inscriptions include many names. Some of these collections cover inscriptions from before the period of the SCA, but we've included the whole list at the bottom. One of our members extracted the women's names from one of these books--that information is on the Web at http://www.panix.com/~mittle/names/tangwystyl/india/tirupati_f.html Juliana de Luna, Talorgen nei Wrguist, Tecangl Bach, Walraven van Nijmegen, Tangwystl verch Morgant Glasvryn, Arval Benicoeur, and Talan Gwynek contributed to this letter. We hope this is helpful. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know. In service, Alan Fairfax Academy of S. Gabriel BIBLIOGRAPHY: Corpus inscriptionum indicarum.
