ACADEMY OF SAINT GABRIEL REPORT 1593 http://www.s-gabriel.org/1593 ************************************ 14 Apr 1999 From: Jodi McMaster Greetings from the Academy of S. Gabriel! You asked whether the name was appropriate for a Frenchwoman living between 1200 and 1450 CE. This appears to be a surname based on a place--the person was "from a place called Lazier." We were not able to find the exact spelling and form , although it appears to be a perfectly plausible place name and may very well have existed in period--we just could not find any examples showing it did. We did find the following similar place names [1,2]: Lazer Lazies Lazare We found lots of examples of the surname on the web, and two in Britannica Online, but nothing to suggest its origin. We're sorry this letter has not been more helpful. Please write us again if any part of it has been unclear or if you have other questions. Arval Benicouer and Talan Gwynek contributed comments and/or research for this letter.
