Greetings,

Here's the information we found on your name and arms.

We didn't find any examples of the name "Endreda." We did find a record of the name "Endriði" in 10th-centry Iceland, and we think that you found some form of that name. Your source may have misinterpreted examples of the name, or it may have information we don't. If you can give us the source and exactly what it says about the name, we will have a better chance of determining whether the form it describes was used in period.

The arms you suggested don't resemble the styles used in medieval heraldry. Before designing arms, you may want to look at examples of medieval heraldry. One excellent source is "A Dictionary of Heraldry" by Joseph Foster (also called "Some Feudal Coats of Arms," which contains hundreds of examples of medieval heraldry. You could also look at the Web page

http://people.delphi.com/ivanor/

which has a smaller collection of medieval arms. You may also want to consider whether you want arms at all. Heraldry was not invented until the 12th century, and an early-period Scandinavian would not have used heraldry (although we do know that they painted designs on shields). A discussion of the issues and options involved in choosing heraldry for "non-heraldic personas" can be found at

You may want to consult this for further information.

Arval D'Espas Nord, Tangwystl verch Morgant Glasvryn, and Lindorm Eriksson all contributed to this letter.

We hope this has been helpful. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.
