ACADEMY OF SAINT GABRIEL REPORT 1757 http://www.s-gabriel.org/1757 ************************************ Greetings from the Academy of Saint Gabriel! Here's the information we found on a Burgundian surname from between 1100 and 1350, and on your proposed arms, which we blazoned "Azure semy-de-lys argent, a pale argent semy-de-lys azure." Most of the names you suggested can be found in period French sources. [1] For the others, we found examples in a modern French surname dictionary that we have found to be a reasonably reliable guide to late-period naming. We found one early example, dated to 1280. [4] The arms we found were English. However, the family that bore them was originally from France and we found that even in 1280 different branches of the family were using a "semy-de-lys counterchanged" in different colors. This suggests that the design had been used members of the family for some time, and so it is likely that the arms originated in France. As far as we can tell, your design does not conflict with any armory protected by the SCA. Mari Elspeth nic Bryan, Walraven van Nijmegen, Arval Benicoeur, Talan Gwynek, Zenobia Naphtali, and Rouland Carre contributed to this letter. We hope this has been helpful, and that we can continue to assist you. In service, Alan Fairfax Academy of S.
