ACADEMY OF SAINT GABRIEL REPORT 1873 http://www.s-gabriel.org/1873 ************************************ From: "Sara L Friedemann" 30 Dec 1999 Greetings from the Academy of Saint Gabriel! You asked for help finding feminine names that were used by the Turkic Khazars between 550 and 1000. Here is the information we have found. As you are probably aware, resources for Khazari info are pretty slim, especially ones that deal with feminine names from this early time period. The sources that we do have are usually Persian or Greek rather than Khazar. However, we have found two references to women in Khazar context. The first was in the 12th century. [1] We don't know the origin of this name; it could perhaps be a form of the Hebrew feminine name . The second is , the name of Constantine's Khazar wife, whom he married in 732. [1] was also a Turkic name found in the Book of Dede Korkut, a 15th century compilation of an older oral tale. [2] We're sorry we couldn't be more help, and hope that you will not hesitate to write again if any part was unclear or if you have further questions. Research and commentary on this letter was provided by Walraven van Nijmegen, Barak Raz, Raquel Buenaventura, Pedro de Alcazar, Adelaide de Beaumont, Arval Benicoeur, Alexander Traveller, Teceangl Bach, Blaise de Cormeilles, Tangwystyl verch Morgant Glasvryn, Talan Gwynek, Amant le Marinier, and Devora bat Shimshon.
