Greetings,

Here's the information we found on 11th century Welsh names for women.

You said you were looking for something that looked or sounded like "Aeronwy" which would be appropriate for the 11th century. We actually did find an example of a name which is close--the name "Euronwy," which appears in a late 13th-century manuscript. Based on other 11th-century examples, (2) the spelling of this name which would be most appropriate for the 11th century is "Euronui."

We also wanted to let you know that the pronunciation of this name is different from the one you sent. Welsh emphasizes the next-to-last syllable, so that "Aeronwy" would be pronounced "eye-ROAN-wee." "Euronwy" is pronounced similarly, as "ay-ROAN-wee" (so that the first syllable rhymes with "hey" instead of "hi.")

Tangwystl verch Morgant Glasvryn contributed to this letter.

We hope this has been helpful. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

In service,
Alan Fairfax
