Greetings,

Here's the information we have on the name "Giovanni" as it might be used by an Italian Gypsy.

The "gypsies," or Rom, speak a language called Romany. We have little information about Romany naming practices, but it appears that Romany used names from the culture they were in when dealing with outsiders. As a result, any name appropriate to 13th-century northern Italy would be appropriate for your persona as well.

"Giovanni" is a historical name for any part of Italy through our period. We don't know of any source for family names, but you could use a descriptive name which would have been used in Italy at that time.

Willem Gerritszoon and Arval D'Espas Nord contributed to this letter.

We hope this has been helpful. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

In service,
Alan Fairfax
