Greetings,

Here's the information we have for the name "Aidan Cathan Tadgh MacDonagh," which you'd like to use as an Irish name from between 1000 and 1400.

Aidan, Cathan, and Tadhg (note, not "Tadgh") were all popular names in medieval Ireland. (1) Based on various examples of names in Irish sources, we think that the medieval forms of these names would be something like

Although all these names were used in medieval Ireland, multiple first names weren't used in Ireland until after 1600. To have a medieval name, pick one of these given names and use it.

"MacDonagh" is an Anglicized form of "Mac Donnchadha," which is a historical Irish name. During your period this would be writting in Irish as either "mac Donnchadha" or "mac Donnchada."

Tangwystl verch Morgant Glasvryn, Elsbeth Anne Roth, and Arval D'Espas Nord all contributed to this letter.

We hope this has been helpful, and that we can continue to assist you.
