Greetings,

Here's the information we found on the name "Cian uá Lochan."

"Cian" is a perfect name for your period. "Cian" is an old Irish name--Cian mac Mael Muad, the son-in-law of Brian Boru, was killed in 1014, (1) which dates it to your exact period, and we found numerous other examples as well. (2)

We also numerous examples of "Lóchán" from your period. (2) You could use either "uá Lócháin" (meaning "descendant of Lóchán" or "mac Lócháin" (meaning "son of Lóchán") as a byname.

We hope this has been helpful, and that we can be of further assistance.

Elsbeth Anne Roth, Tangwystl verch Morgant Glasvryn, and Arval D'Espas Nord contributed to this letter.
