This is a Latinized form of a Hebrew name ; and that's how the name appears in many English translations of the Old Testament. The name may have been used in Greek in the Byzantine period; a name that appears to be the same is listed in a catalogue of pre-6th century Greek names at http://www.lgpn.ox.ac.uk/. However, we have found no evidence that it was used in medieval Europe or in Western Europe at all before modern times. We definitely cannot recommend it as good re-creation of a 12th century Irish name. If you would like to consider another name better suited to that period, you can find some lists in our library at: http://www.panix.com/~mittle/names/irish.shtml Please write again if you have further questions.
