Academy of Saint Gabriel Report 277

This report is available at http://www.s-gabriel.org/277

Some of the Academy's early reports contain errors that we haven't yet corrected. Please use it with caution.

Here is what we have found about the name "Gormlinde".

Unfortunately, it seems likely that "Gormlinde" is not an Irish name at all. The closest Irish name we have found is "Gormfhlaith" (later Anglicized "Gormley" which gives you an approximation of the pronunciation).

The element "-linde" is German in origin. It is found in many German-derived names, like Sieglinde &c, but is not found in Irish names. The element "Gorm-" is uniquely Irish, as far as we can tell.

Sincerely,
Hartmann Rogge
