Our source for the name "Guétan" (with an accent over the "e") was
Dauzat, Dictionnaire Etymologique des Noms de Famille et des Prenoms de France, p.312.
Dauzat is one of the standard sources for SCA names. It's in many university libraries. If you can't find a physical copy of this book, a bibliographic reference is sufficient in many places. "Guétan" is listed as a variant of the name "Guet," which means "lookout, watchman."
