ACADEMY OF SAINT GABRIEL REPORT 3093 http://www.s-gabriel.org/3093 ************************************ 16 Apr 2006 From: Aryanhwy merch Catmael Greetings from the Academy of S. Gabriel! You asked for suggestions for arms using a sword and a rose that would be appropriate for a 15th- or 16th-century Englishwoman. Here is the information we have found. Before we start, we'd like to apologize for the length of time it has taken us to complete this report. We hope that this information is still useful to you. Here are a number of designs using swords and roses that we can recommend as being appropriate for your period: * Sable, three swords fesswise argent, overall on a bend Or, three roses gules. [1] * Sable, two swords crossed in saltire between three roses two and one argent. [2] * Sable, one (or three) swords and a bordure argent semy of roses gules. [3] * Argent, on a fess between two chevrons sable each charged with three roses argent, a sword sable. [4] So far as we can tell, any of these is registerable with the SCA College of Arms. We hope that this letter has been useful to you, and that you won't hesitate to write us again if any part was unclear or if you have further questions. Research and commentary on this letter was provided by Arval Benicoeur, Ursula Georges, Sabine Berard, Talan Gwynek, Gunnvor Silfraharr, and Adelaide de Beaumont.
