Greetings,

Unfortunately, we did find a conflict with your proposed device, "Quarterly Or and azure, a tree gules."

The Canton of Coppertree has the arms, "Quarterly azure and argent, a crab apple tree eradicated gules." We considered moving the tree into the first quarter, but that conflicts with Anne the Quiet: "Per bend sinister embattled argent and gules, a tree eradicated gules." (the tree in this coat is in the same location).

One of our members went through a book on German heraldry, (1) and suggested two designs which would be consistent with German heraldic style (which we thought might interest you because of the name "Karl-Faustus von Aachen."

They are:

Per fess Or and azure, issuant from the line of division a tree gules.
(This has the tree in the top half of the shield, with the trunk coming right from the line.)

Per fess Or and checky Or and azure, issuant from the line of division a tree gules.
(This has a similar design, with the bottom in a gold-and-blue check pattern. It preserves some of the "quarterly" effect and is also period. There are similar examples using lozengy and bendy in the bottom half.)

We did find that "Quarterly Or and azure, two trees in bend gules" would not conflict with any other arms, but the only examples of arms like this that we found were in English heraldry.

Elsbeth Anne Ross, Rouland Carre, Talan Gwynek, Arval D'Espas Nord, Walraven van Nijmege, Evan da Collaureo, and Hartmann Rogge contributed to this letter.

We hope this has been helpful. If we can continue to assist you, please let us know.
